American Pancakes

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This recipe is for American Pancakes. I made these this morning as they are perfect for a leisurely weekend breakfast.  The recipe is the simplest ever, and you probably have everything in the kitchen right now. You can add anything to the batter to make them how you like them e.g. chocolate, cinnamon etc. but this is the basic pancake recipe.
I hope you try this recipe especially since this is a bank holiday weekend - treat your family to a lovely breakfast!

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Milk
2. Plain Flour
3. Sugar
4. Baking Powder
5. Salt
6. An Egg

Bismillah, let's begin!

Place 8 ounces (1 cup) plain flour into a mixing bowl.

Add 1 teaspoon baking powder.

Add 1 tablespoon sugar.

Add a pinch of salt.

Add an egg.

Add 8 fluid ounces (1 cup) milk.

Whisk everything to combine. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes before cooking. If you feel that the batter is too thin, then add a little more plain flour.

Heat a little oil (or butter) in a pan, and add one ladle full of batter. If you want the pancakes smaller, add less.

Cook the pancakes for a minute or so on each side, until golden brown.

To serve, arrange a few pancakes onto a plate, or you could stack them.

I like to dust them with icing sugar and ..

.. then drown them in maple syrup. But you could serve with any sweet spread, honey or fresh fruit - whatever you like!
