she found stillness.
for today it was a breath -
one lovely, slow, deep breath.

Chicken Quesadillas + Fresh Tomato Salsa.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Spring is here people!
The daffodils are blooming, the late-afternoon sun is glowing and these quesadillas (stuffed Mexican tortillas - think a Mexican grilled cheese sandwich) with fresh tomato salsa are just begging to be made in your kitchen.

Plenty of Brioche + Malaysian Curry + Mother's Soup: 14-20 March 2015

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

this week, writing out my daily schedule on my phone and planner has helped me keep on track of everything.

Brioche Loaf.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

I think you should bake a loaf of brioche this weekend.

Seriously, you should. It's what I did last Saturday on a lazy day at home. After all, a simple brioche was my baking challenge for March. You can see January here and don't even ask about February.

Smoky Sweet Potato and Chickpea Fritters + Tahini Yoghurt.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

I love sweet potatoes. And, I never thought I would say that.

Like ever. I've only discovered sweet potatoes in the past few years. And, to be honest, I found them too sweet. Shocking, right. You would think the name would give it away. Anyhoo, previously I've tried them in browniesto replace potatoes in a spicy salad  and as roasted fries. Oh, and once I was inspired by my cousin to dip them in a spicy gram flour batter and give them a fry - so good!

Sunday Roast + Sous Chef Haul + Mother's Scones: 7-13 March 2015

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This week, I'm loving how I can hear so many more birds outside now that spring is really on its way. Our walled garden has always been a haven for birds in the warmer months, and I like nothing better at the moment than to fling open the windows and listen to the birdsong outside. A kind of natural soundtrack, if you will.

The Chocolate Cake.

This is it.
The chocolate cake.

Crispy Chicken Nuggets

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Omg. These things are addictive.
And, bonus points - they are super easy to make and only require ten ingredients. We first made them back in January when 2015 was all new and exciting. Ps. who still writes 2014 by accident? Guilty person over here.

Spring Snow + Soda Bread + Mother's Quiche: 28 February - 6 March 2015.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This week, I have finally got my hands on a few rolls of washi tape and let's just say, I've been putting it everywhere.
I have also mistakenly eaten a whole roast garlic clove thinking it was a potato wedge. Don't ask.
Weather wise, we have had it all. Snow, blazing sunshine, grey clouds and blue skies.
And, I have perfected the chocolate cake. Keep an eye out for it.

Chicken Tacos.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This is my kind of pick and mix.

The savoury kind though not the sweet that I bet you were thinking about. Yesterday (now a few days ago), the question in my diary was: Salty or sweet?

Sunday Baking + Eton Mess + Peanut Butter Cookies: 21-27 February 2015.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This week, I have made spring rolls on a day where I felt that spring was in the air.
Then, it snowed the next day so I baked a rainbow cake.
I have tried, for the first time, a tomato and orange soup. Strange, but it works.
I have nearly smoked out the entire house searing chicken legs, but it was worth it.
I made a huge mess baking soft peanut cookies (also worth it) and fell in love with bananas with brown sugar and lime.
