Your Most Popular Recipes 2017!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

It's been a delicious year!
And now, it's time to round up your most popular recipes that were published in 2017. My favourite sweet one is up there - the strawberry jelly poke cake. It took me a while to get right but the end result was definitely worth it.

Your Top 10 Most Popular Sweet Recipes 2017:

10. Iced Bakewell Tart
A buttery shortcrust pastry case filled with homemade tart raspberry jam, frangipane and topped with an almond pink feathered icing. It's a British classic for a reason!

9. Peanut Butter and Raspberry Jam Cupcakes
A simple peanut butter sponge stuffed with raspberry jam before being topped with a sweet and salty peanut butter buttercream. To finish, peanut butter crumbs and a drizzle of more raspberry jam.

8. Bee Sting Cake
A yeasted cake that I think would make a great Bake Off technical challenge. The cake is baked with an almond caramel until risen and golden. Once cool, it's split in half and sandwiched with a thick vanilla custard.

7. Gulab Jamun
The classic Indian sweet treat made at home! Milk dough balls are fried until golden before being left to soak in a sweet syrup until plump and juicy. The ultimate sugar hit.

6. Brown Butter Sprinkle Cookies
Cookie dough balls made with nutty brown butter and dunked into sprinkles. Once baked, the result is a crisp but chewy sweet cookie which goes perfect with a cup of tea.

5. Chocolate Mousse Pie
A buttery biscuit base topped with an airy chocolate mousse and finished with plenty of softly whipped cream. Make it, chill it and I guarantee that no one will be able to resist a slice.

4. Golden Syrup Upside-Down Cake
When the weather is grey and cold, only a hot pudding will do. This simple sponge baked with plenty of sweet golden syrup is a real family favourite in our house. Serve with lashings of hot custard.

3. Coffee Chocolate Smoothie
One of my favourite smoothies spiked with coffee and chocolate. Have it for breakfast, as a snack or an energy-boost in the middle of a long day.

2. Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler with Honey Butter Scones
One of my favourite Summer desserts which we love with vanilla ice cream. Fresh strawberries and rhubarb are topped with tiny honey butter scones. The whole thing bakes until golden before the top is brushed with more honey butter. My favourite!

1. Strawberry Lemonade
And, your most popular sweet recipe for 2017 was strawberry lemonade! Sweet strawberries and sour lemons meet in this recipe to make one of the most refreshing drinks I know of.

Your Top 10 Most Popular Savoury Recipes 2017:

10. Lamb Keema Pulao with Cucumber Onion Raita
Two of my favourites (pulao and keema curry) come together in this one-pot wonder. We love it served with a crunchy cucumber onion yoghurt raita.

9. French Onion Soup (with homemade vegetable stock!)
Onions and my homemade veggie stock are the stars in this Winter warmer. I love topping the soup with a giant cheese crouton. Perfect comfort food!

8. Bengali-Style Masala Roast Chicken
This isn't a roast chicken in the traditional sense. Instead this spicy chicken is baked in a pan on the cooker. We love serving it with hot chips and a cooling tomato salad. Delicious with the spiced onion masala.

7. One-Pot Lasagne
A lasagne made in one pan on the cooker but still with all the flavour and texture of a classic baked lasagne. This will definitely become one of your family favourites.

6. Our House Roti
Cooked everyday in our house, this simple flatbread is our weapon of choice when it comes to mopping up all those curries.

5. Green Chilli and Fresh Coriander French Toast
Inspired by one of you guys, this spicy French toast with green chillies and fresh coriander is perfect for a weekend breakfast. Serve with a squeeze of ketchup.

4. Spicy Lemon Roast Chicken with Gravy
This is how we like our roast chicken - spicy and with plenty of lemon. Use the gravy to drown everything!

3. Cream Cheese Chicken and Vegetable Pie
A pie with buttermilk shortcrust pastry on the bottom and top. The filling is a cream cheese chicken and vegetable concoction that you may even want to just eat with a spoon. It's a real showstopper once baked.

2. Punjabi Kadhi with Lamb Kebabs
My grandmother's recipe for a meaty Punjabi kadhi. If you've grown up eating kadhi, you'll know that this is a real homemade treat.

1. Chicken Tikka Masala
And, your number one most popular savoury recipe of 2017 is chicken tikka masala. I don't blame you guys. This curry is a British classic for a reason. Grilled chicken tikkas in a spiced curry sauce - what is not to love?

My personal savoury favourite from this year is my Fijian Indian lamb pulao. It does take a little time to make but is so worth it. Delicious with tomato chutney.

And, that's 2017 done! Thank you so much for all your support over the years. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know. Keep me in your duas, please.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
