Date and Walnut Squares

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!



This recipe is for Date and Walnut Cake. It's a really simple recipe for an everyday cake which is great for teatime!


A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Pitted Dates

2. Walnuts
3. White Sugar
4. Brown Sugar
5. Butter 
6. Eggs
7. Self-Raising Flour


Bismillah, let's bake! 

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4.




Into the bowl of a standing mixer, place six ounces (170 grams) white sugar.



Along with six ounces (170 grams) of brown sugar.




Add 12 ounces (340 grams) of softened butter.



Beat together until creamy.




Crack in four eggs, one at a time.




Beat until combined. Add a few teaspoons of vanilla flavouring at this point, if you have some!




Next, take 16 ounces (453 grams) of self-raising flour.



Mix until combined.



Now, for the walnuts. Take eight ounces (226 grams) of walnuts, roughly chopped.



Throw them in.



Finally, eight ounces (226 grams) of pitted dates, roughly chopped.




And, throw them in too.




Stir the mixture until combined well.




Spread the mixture in a large greased oven dish.



Bake at Gas Mark 7 for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and cooked all the way through.
Allow to cool completely, and then slice in squares and serve!

Ingredients

·     8 ounces (226 grams) Pitted Dates, roughly chopped
·     8 ounces (226 grams) Walnuts, roughly chopped
·     6 ounces (170 grams) White Sugar
·     6 ounces (170 grams) Brown Sugar
·     12 ounces (340 grams) Butter, softened
·     4 Eggs
·     16 ounces (453 grams) Self-Raising Flour

Method

1.        Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 7 and grease a large oven dish.

2.        Place both sugars and butter into a mixer, and beat until light and creamy.

3.        Add the eggs and beat in. Then, add the flour and mix until combined. Finally, throw in the dates and walnuts and mix well.

4.        Spread the mixture into the oven dish and bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

5.        Allow to cool completely and then slice into squares.
